NV Port Society Finest Reserve Ruby Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 4 hours - A blend made for the Port Society by Quevedo wines. Bottled as a Finest Reserve, but equivalent in quality terms to a Crusted Port but not given sufficient time in the cellar to be sold as such. Bottled in 2011, principally from a blend of 80% 2008, 15% 2007, 5% 2006.

Very deep red in colour; opaque. Sharp nose, focussed blueberry and violets. Smooth entry, lots of violets and sweet blackcurrant; a big palate presence with soft tannins and lots of acidity - and tannins that grow to be quite chalky and dominating. Lots of fruit in the mouth. Slight heat on the aftertaste and early finish from the acidity, but this fades to leave a very lively chalky blackcurrant finish of terrific length. A good port to tuck away for 5-10 years. 87 points
