Decant: Just Opened - A glass rescued from another bottle bought in the same lot as the bottle opened on 23 Mar 2011. As this bottle was being moved from one storage location to another the neck sheared away from the shoulder of the bottle and almost all of the contents emptied themselves onto the garage floor. A single glass of the contents was rescued.
This was in much better condition than the previous bottle. A deeper, rose coloured red although very closed on the nose due to the pop 'n' pour basis of serving. What smell there was, brought memories of hot redcurrant jelly melting into roast meat. Lovely and sweet in the mouth, full of gently fruit, soft tannins and with a terrific elegance. Plenty of layering and new flavours appearing and fading for as long as you have the patience not to swallow the wine. When you lose patience, the aftertaste is lovely; elegant and fruit based with a gentle if slightly short finish.
A lovely bottle of this port; just such a shame that it was opened in the way that it was. 92 points
