1851 Unknown Shipper Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: Not Known - Decanted cleanly out of a beautiful bottle; cork extracted in a single piece but no branding visible through the stain of age. Surprisingly deep red for such an old wine. Mid-red colour with a browning rim; 50% opaque. Dusty cherries dominate the nose, over a meat / gravy essence. Silky texture on entry, fully flavoured, full of charcoal and rose petals. Still lots of tannin in the wine; very dry - perhaps dried out a little from age. A long finish that is a touch spirity and is full of charcoal, burnt wood and fresh carrots! Amazingly alive. 91 points
