TN: 2005 Roquette e Cazes Xisto Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Decanted 3 hrs. Deep dark red colour. Complex aroma of oak and berries (Bordeaux style). Very pleasant full bodied and elegant wine, actually being velvet in style. However, a relatively dry wine with quite powerful tannins towards the end. Long finish. A rich wine. Typical wine to drink together with food, not so much on its own. Other Crasto-wines have better value-for-money. I prefer the Douro-style, but nice to have tried it. 91 pts.

I've never been a big fan of this wine from them. To me it's just too generic tasting, lacking anything that resembles the Douro, and has just never appealed to me. So I'm glad to read a positive review of this slightly older vintage of it. Maybe it just needs a time in the cellar to sort itself out.
