searching info about a bottle of ferreiro port

Post by henry william »

Image this week i found a botlle of Ferreiro superior tawny on a auction, as a port lover i bought it for just €40 :), a handwritten label hanging on the neck says that it was bouht in the summer of 1966, its a tawny, so it must be from around 1963 or earlier, the label on the backside is bilingual german/englisch, possible bottled for the german market.
paper seal and leadcap are intact, no lost of content, on the shoulder a glass seal with AAF, i cant find a simular bottle one on the web sofar to be shure about the date, i need some help from an expert for this quest, thanks in forward, henry, Nijmegen the Netherlands

From what I can tell it appears to be a basic Tawny Port, typical current retail being about $15 (USD) or less. You've paid a fair sum for given the type of Port it is so I hope it still shows decent. However, these types of Ports are not meant to age that long in bottle.

Can you post a pic of the small label on the top of the "shoulder" part of the bottle. And a pic of the back label too. That should give us a lot more to go on, I hope.

Very interesting! I think that Andy was spot on with his assessment of this being a basic tawny that was meant for relatively early consumption (not meant for long-term aging.) nevertheless, I do hope you enjoy it and please post a tasting note with your impressions once you open it.
