TN: 2001 Alves de Sousa Quinta do Vale da Raposa Touriga Nacional Douro

Post by Andy Velebil »

To the best of my knowledge I've never had this before which was why I recently picked some up on a whim. 100% Touriga Nacional, I was really impressed by this wine. Lots of vibrant cherries, tons of cedar and spices, a good dose of forest floor and moss sneaking in on the finish, and some soft tannins still poking through. A wine which has an elegance and primary fruit to it that reminded me of Burgundy but with background flavors more in line with an middle age Bordeaux. A combination that works very well together in this wine.

Good luck trying to find it around Boston... Wish Alves de Sousa had better distribution on the East Coast.

Good luck finding in So. Cal as well. Not an easy producer to find here in the States from what I've seen so far.
