I just learned of this offer. Regardless of the guy touting these, the prices and provenance can't be beat. Here you go, until sold out. I need these like a hole in the head but at these rolled back prices, I wouldn't think of letting this go by!

Legendary Giant-Killers

1983 and 1985 Gould Campbell
... perfectly timed to lay in for Fall
In its 215 years of making Port, the venerable house of Gould Campbell has managed to remain largely under the radar. But every few vintages, it turns out a Vintage Port that rattles Oporto with its greatness. It happened in 1977, and then again in 1983 and 1985. In fact, if any period in its recent history can be viewed as a "Golden Age," it's 1977-1985.
As luck would have it, an old friend in the business squirreled away a significant stock of the 1983 and 1985 vintages. And the Port market being what it is, they've offered us a deal so astounding it makes possible these wild prices: just $37.95 for the 1983 and $39.95 for the 1985.
In the late 1990s, you are likely to have paid at least this much for these vintages. (On www.fortheloveofport.com, Roy Hersh recalls the price of 1983 Gould Campbell rising to $39.95 in 1996, "a big jump at the time." How many great wines can you buy today for less than what you'd have paid 16 years ago?
Cellarage has been perfect. And the wines are available for shipment starting Monday.
But Why Buy Port at the End of May?
It's a logical question and has a equally logical answer: buy them now, ship them and lay them in your cellar. By Fall, the sediment will be perfectly settled and these Ports will be in top drinking form.
1983 Gould Campbell
$37.95 or $225/6-pack
Roy Hersh (most recent note: April 2011): "93 rating ... Extremely dark purplish-magenta. Inviting notes of mocha, boysenberry and lavender ... It is youthful, approachable and a stunning nearly 30 year old VP that is drinking like a teenager. From the sublime silky-smooth texture, to the incredible balance and structure, this is a wonderful 1983 which I've always admired and bought lots of ... Big, ripe, sweet blackberry and boysenberry brambly flavors are sublime and still quite primary. The finish ... is a mistake in nomenclature."
1985 Gould Campbell
$39.95 or $235/6-pack
Roy Hersh (most recent note: April 2011): "94 rating ... This flight of 1985's is stacked with an all-star team; I hope to repeat it twenty years from now when it would be like drinking the best of 1966 VP's today. Medium dark ruby with a light red rim. Fresh and floral bouquet with grenadine and anise notes. Another in a long line of under-valued Gould Campbell Vintage Ports. Rich, sumptuous and warming, with flavors of raspberry, black licorice and toffee. Medium-full weight in a lighter outer shell. This is still extremely young and vibrant at this stage. The tannins are up for the challenge, gripping and powdery and this '85 has one crazy long finish."

Thanks Roy!
I picked some up as well. A quick check of WineSearcher reveals what a nice price this is... plus with the provenance, it's icing on the cake.
Would you opt to drink or hold these?

I was too slow... the 1983 is already sold out. I did get a 6-pack of the 1985 though.

Hi Marco,
Both are easy to approach now, especially with the proper decant. But if you have a good amount of either/both vintages, try one and you will likely find that they will be even better down the road if you can keep your hands off of them. Given the price though, these might be fun to drink at least a couple when they are young and save the rest for another 15 years or so.

Thanks Roy. Looks like I might pop one and let the rest age a bit more.
