1912 Cockburn Vintage Port

1912 Cockburn Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (3/10/2012)
Base neck fill, bottled by Whitwham's, recorked 1984. My principal fear was Whitwham's might have topped this up with younger wine when recorking. I wish they had. This had the color of pale cream soda. Nothing left here but stale, nostalgic reminders of old lady perfume and dusty old steamer trunk. An interesting 100-year-old novelty, nothing more. Still, no worse than I expected from Wine Consigners. Not scored.

A real shame this didn't show better. Then again, I refuse to buy anything from that on-line retailer again due to the conditions their bottles are generally in.

Did the other bottles you posted about also come from this same retailer?

Nope, that was my one and only dealing with those guys. They of course never felt compelled to disclose that it had been recorked. For the price, I figured it was at least worth the long shot gamble so I kept it. An odd company, for sure.

I must be the luckiest guy on earth, because I've never had a problem with them. They've always been helpful, answered questions, emailed pictures, whatever I've asked... and the bottles have always been in great shape. Or at worst, exactly as described/pictured.

I went through a very similar situation with Wine Consigners that involved a recorked bottle (it was clearly indicated on a label attached to the bottle by Whitwham) that was never disclosed as such by Wine Consigners. Buyer beware...
