2004 Niepoort Robustus Douro
A very hard wine to find here in the States, as such I had to hand carry this back from a previous trip to London where I bought it. Part of this spent its first year in an old barrel used for Redoma and the other part in an old Batuta barrel. Then a further 3 years in a very large old barrel. Such a fragrant wine I had a hard time setting it down. Loganberries and black fruit assail the palate. Plenty of tannins and acidity on this very complex full bodied, yet very fresh, wine. It never loses its elegance even with everything going on. This is one of the great Douro wines.
