Color: Purple-red, opaque in the center. Not exactly cloudy, but also not clear. Is it possible to see tannins?
Nose: Not quite lodgey, but grapey in the same way. Blackberry and a bit of blueberry, or perhaps the blueberry is something floral. Some very faint black cherry. Also some milk chocolate.
Palate: Lovely mouth feel, with good tannins and nice acidity. Lots of dark stone fruits and black brambles - plum, possibly some prune, blackberry, loganberry, and some rather rich-flavored grape. Milk chocolate is quite strong. Very much on the sweeter end of the scale and could use just a touch of tartness to help balance that out.
Finish: good length with just a touch of warmth and a faint hint of bitterness like grape stem. Well into the tail that bitterness resolves into tart apples and apple seed.
Score: 92 points. An excellent Port that is easy on the palate and pleasant to drink. I doubt it will improve much with age, though another 5 years certainly won't hurt it.
