2007 Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Some leftovers from Roy, this bottle has been open 3 days.

2007 Fonseca LBV
bottled 2012
unfiltered

Color: Red-purple, nice and opaque in the middle. Halfway between the center and the rim shows more red than the Taylor.

Nose: Rich and red. Sounds like a good name for a book. Lots of purple brambles - marionberry, loganberry, boysenberry. Just a hint of some red raspberry and also a bit of blackberry.

Palate: Very rich. Great acidity. Good tannins. Well balanced sweet brambles that are countered by a bit of tart red raspberry. Powerful. Begs to be paired with a medium rare steak.

Finish: Good length. Tannins leave some pucker. Fruits are red and purple.

Score: 92 points. This feels like it needs some time to mature. In another 10 years it will probably be worthy of a 93 or 94 after it has had a chance to mellow a bit. An interesting counterpoint to the 2007 Taylor, as that one is ready right now and probably won't get much better with age.
