2007 Niepoort Crusted Port
Probably harvested a couple of years before bottling 2007, i.e. abt 7 yrs old.Two metal caps on top of each other, which is a bit unusual. Cork light red one-third on the way already, which is a bad sign just 5 yrs after bottling. 5 hrs decanting. A lof sediments, all very small parts (needed double decanting). Dark red colour. Subdued aroma of spirit and fruit. Full body. Quite smooth, easy pleasant drinking until you get to the stage of swallowing; then there is some bitterness in the tannins occurring which is not so pleasant. Long aftertaste. This port became more smoother with even longer decanting, but the bitterness was still there. Consumed over three days, Put in bottle overnight and then again a few hours in the decanter. 87 pts.
