1977 Warre's Vintage Port
This is one of the original bottles in my collection. Purchased from Trader Joe's in 1992 for $24.99 (the price sticker was still on it!). The cork has mushroomed and separated into layers at the botom when extracting it... but the Durand corkscrew worked perfectly! All the chunks were stil held in place. The Durand *is* the best opener for older Ports! The cork is completely soaked, but has not leaked. Very dark color. My previous bottles were very light in color, so this is a shock. Still quite young. Wonderfully suave mouthfeel. Tons of black fruit builds in the mouth that completely coats it. But the highlight is the extremely long, caressing finish. Wow. Very balanced, there is still some unresolved tannin, but not much. This is an exceptionally strong bottle of 1977 Warre's. Blind I would have guessed more like 1977 Taylor. I would say that this exceptional bottle is still a bit linear and could use more time to gain complexity. 94+ points

I've really enjoyed this and been one of the few proponents of it when many others have said its peaked or on a slight down hill slide. I feel this still has good upside potential.

I was one of those that said it was fading... but those bottles had cork beetle damage, so obviously unfair. The last two bottles that I have had have shown to be too young!Andy Velebil wrote:I've really enjoyed this and been one of the few proponents of it when many others have said its peaked or on a slight down hill slide.
