1997 Niepoort Vintage port

Post by Monique Heinemans. »

This was the second bottle 1997 Niepoort VP in two weeks time, the first did not show well at all, but this one delivers a lot of fun although the bottle has been leaking a tiny little bit.
The colour is still very dark/ruby, almost opaque, just a little translucency at the rim. A very fruity nose, I smell some grapes too. I taste a lot of red and dark fruit like cherries, strawberries and blackberries, but also coffee(?). This wine is also very fresh, mint comes to my mind. The alcohol is very well integrated, the wine is round and smooth. The aftertaste is very nice, but a bit short.
Overall a very, very nice VP, I have two bottles left and hope they will show this well too! Lovely!

When you find a bottle that is non-problematic ... they are just superb VP's. Glad yours showed this well, Monique!
