From day 1 of the 1985 horizontal, 24-25 Jan 2015, Holiday Inn Issaquah. All Ports were tasted blind. Unless otherwise noted, Ports were decanted for ~4 hours the morning of the tasting. The ones that I decanted received ~8 hours of decant overnight and were then stoppered for another ~6 hours until the tasting.
1985 Guedes Vintage Port
Color: Cloudy. Faint red - looks oxidized but not tawny.
Nose: Flat. Possibly a leaker? Some butter? Some cardboard (but not in a TCA way)?
Palate: Faint coffee, light fruit. Good acidity, but really seems flawed in some way. Others said simply not well made.
Score: N/R. While the others may be right and this simply wasn't a well-made Port, I really felt it was flawed in some way and so not fair to rate. If forced to put a number on it, it would have been in the mid to upper 70s.
