From day 1 of the 1985 horizontal, 24-25 Jan 2015, Holiday Inn Issaquah. All Ports were tasted blind. Unless otherwise noted, Ports were decanted for ~4 hours the morning of the tasting. The ones that I decanted received ~8 hours of decant overnight and were then stoppered for another ~6 hours until the tasting.
1985 Martinez Vintage Port
Color: Medium red. About as "neutral" of a Port color as you can get, with no real hues or overtones of note.
Nose: Sweetly fruity. Possibly some yeast? Not particularly notable.
Palate: Rich secondary fruits. Nice tannins - present but soft and almost silky. Rich flavor, but not terribly notable. At or past peak, but pleasant to drink.
Score: 85 points. A good to very good Port, but not one to seek out and buy. Drink up if you have any, as there's really no room for improvement here.
