1958 Krohn Colheita Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Bottled 2006. Tasted blind. Fairly hazy with a lot of sediment for a tawny. Deeper aromas than the first wine of the flight (50 Year Old Yalumba), with some umami. Swirling gives warmth and a floral perfume aroma, freshly sprayed. Perhaps it jasmine, or jasmine green tea? The umami comes back—SEAsian broth with some fish sauce or shrimp past. There is a hint of cherry sucrets too. Fairly thick and sweet in the mouth, with a warm, medium length finish. Flavors of caramel, maple sugar, and maple candy (not heavy syrup). This is almost too sticky sweet—I want to pour it over a dessert as a topping. 89-90 points.
