1963 Warre's Vintage Port

Post by Edward J »

Opened for my Dad's 81st birthday party. Cork was saturated and mostly came out in one piece. As I decanted I noticed how bright and light it was, almost rose. After one hour Lots of fruit forward, after two opening up and darker, after three fruit heads back and balance seems perfect. We served it at four hours over the next two. The wine had picked up some weight and coated the glass, yet it was somewhat restrained. Nice bit of heat at the end and a wonderful long finish, with hints of pomegranate. A fine showing but not stellar, 92 points.

Next day, more spirit and fading, was better first day.

Glad you enjoyed it. A favorite VP of mine. That said there does tend to be two different showings of this; Amazingly young and rivals the best of the vintage and similar to this one...very good but showing more mature and a tad spirity.
