1980 Warres Vintage Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Of the 1980s tasted (Dow, Graham, Smith Woodhouse, and this), this really has a dark color, and is so much different in appearance from the light 1977 Warres. Correspondingly, it still has lots of primary fruit aromas, cherry, blackberry, blueberry too, and hint of grape stem. In the mouth, Chocolate! Lots of it. This tastes of a tannic chocolate raspberry cake. Initially scored 94-95 points. Still powerful when tasted again later, and it had a little smokey character too. Wonderful and makes one wish there were more 1980 VPs easily found. 95 points.
