My last bottle of this, opened for Kari's birthday dinner at The Purple Cafe in Bellevue.
Porto Rocha Three Centuries
bottled 2006
Color: Dark tawny-brown, some orange and red highlights. Not crystal clear, but also not cloudy.
Nose: Slightly musty. Citrus, brown sugar, and something like caramel apples. Maybe even some lime?
Palate: Very smooth and silky. Lots of vanilla caramel. Tangy dried fruits. Not apricot, though - something else that's similar. Brown sugar of a sharper variety? There's an edge to the brown sugar flavor. Some Meyer lemon, also possibly some key lime.
Finish: long and smooth. Plenty of apple and a hint of apple seed. Easily 40+ seconds. Dry tail.
Score: 94 points. The best bottle that I've had. The years in bottle have mellowed it very nicely, but without losing any of its acidity. I wish I had more bottles!
