TN:2008 Herdade do Mouchao Tonel 3-4 Alentejo red

Post by Rune EG »

Decanted 7 hrs, which is needed. Very dark red colour. Deep complex aroma of oak, soil/minerals, herbs in addition to hints of smoked meat. Full body. Powerful and to some degree elegant, a lot of oak, then soil and herbs. The oak and the minerals/schist are quite dominating, but in a well-structured way. The fruit is more in the background. Although a bit dry, I will still say it is well-balanced acidity/sweetness. Very nice tannins. Long aftertaste. This wine is in the need of several more years in the cellar. The score is given as it was when it was consumed. It will not surprise me if it will be jumping up 2-3 more points during the next 3-5 years. 93 pts.

Interesting. I believe the Tonels 3 and 4 are actually made of Brazilian satinwood, supposed much more dense than oak. I've had the regular Mouchao 2008 but not the Tonel 3-4.
