TN: 2016 Quinta do Crasto Touriga Franca Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

New red wine from Crasto released this year. Third single-grape red wine from this producer (Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz are both well established). 18 months in French oak barrels. Decanted slightly less than 4 hrs. Wil try a bit shorter next time. Dark violet colour. Wonderful aroma of fruit, minerals and a touch floral. It is easy to notice that Touriga Franca is included in many port wines! Full body at start of tasting, but when consuming the wine, it became more like medium body. Powerful, elegant, quite dry towards the end. Well-balanced acidity/sugar. Medium length aftertaste. Will be interesting to follow how this wine is ageing. 93 pts.

I haven't seen this offered in the US yet. I found it interesting that they made almost twice as many bottles of the Touriga Franca (12,200) than of the Touriga Nacional! (7,800)
