TN: 2012 Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas (Baga, Bairrada?)

Post by Eric Menchen »

Slightly rustic aroma, but still seems fairly young with some darker, concentrated fruits. One whiff gives slightly lighter aromas like strawberries and flowers. There might be a smokey element as well, but that could be due to the food that I’m eating. The flavor is very fruity, with fresh fruit like strawberry. This has slightly more body than the 2013 Campolargo, with a nice balance of acid that carries through with some citrus into the finish. This was my favorite wine of the flight of three to drink with my francesina, but for pure wine pleasure I slightly preferred the 2017 Filipa Pato Post Queras. 90 points. On the menu this was listed as Baga, and I believe the written information delivered with the wine indicated Baga and a region of Bairrada, but I’m not 100% sure that this is correct given wine-searcher.com and cellartracker.com listings suggesting the Beiras region.
