Information from Portugal last night is that the next Barca Velha will be vintage 2011.
So far indication is that it will be released May 2020.

Nothing formal yet other than Instagram pic of Luis holding the bottle.

At least I've got time to save up to hopefully buy a few.

2011 is a Barca Velha Year!

Quality and excellence are paramount attributes in creating great wines, but when it comes to Barca Velha, the decisive factor lies in the test of time. Eight years after another exceptional harvest, the moment has come to announce the 20th Barca Velha in history.

Casa Ferreirinha Barca Velha

Between rumours and near absolute certainties, there has been much conjecture and excitement over what is to become the next chapter in the history of one of Portugal’s most iconic wines. Most expectations pointed to 2011 as the most likely candidate, as it was a great year for the Douro Region and one of the most prolific ever in terms of Vintage Port Wine declarations. Predictions aside, it was time who proved the best judge in confirming the next vintage of Douro’s pinnacle of quality with signature of Casa Ferreirinha.

For Luís Sottomayor, head of Sogrape’s winemaking team in the Douro Region, “2011 was an extraordinary year — one of the best ever in the Douro — intense and exceptional in quality. Hence, for our part, it was only a matter of waiting until we could confirm the potential that the vineyard had already suggested.”

At once pioneering and innovative, Barca Velha has been the unmatched symbol of the highest quality in Douro wines since 1952. Classic, intense, complex, elegant and rich… there are simply not enough adjectives to describe the 19 vintages declared over its 67-year history. Since it was first created, Barca Velha is declared only in truly exceptional years, and produced only with grapes carefully selected from different altitudes in the Upper Douro. With 160 ha of vineyards, Quinta da Leda is currently the source of most of the wines comprising this blend, made from traditional grape varieties from the region.

Casa Ferreirinha’s Barca Velha 2011 will be unveiled in May 2020.
