TN: 2018 Pocas Branco da Ribeira Douro white

Post by Rune EG »

Tasted this wine first time September 2019 as part of a Winemakers Dinner at the Pocas location in Gaia. I was immediately charmed. It was vintage 2017 (their first vintage of this wine). Second time was February 2020 as part of a Winemakers Dinner at the vintage port club in Odense, Denmark. Vintage was 2018. Again, charmed by this Douro white. Third time this summer when Emmy and I enjoyed a full bottle of 2018 given to us by family members. The tasting note below is from the last occasion.

Grapes: 70 % Arinto 30 % Codega de Lorinho. Decanted 30 minutes which worked well. Light yellow colour. Powerful fresh aroma of fruit (green apples) and hint of diesel. Medium to full body. Taste is following up the aroma, i.e. it was powerful but also elegant. Quite a mouthful. Nice and distinct minerals. Well-structured and well-balanced Douro white. Slightly on the dry side. Short to medium length aftertaste. 93 pts.
