PRESS REVIEWS
In the November edition of Wine Enthusiast the following wine was reviewed by Roger Voss:
90 Quinta do Portal Vintage Port 2004
Portal’s 2004 is a powerful effort from an average year. The dark structures are all here: the rich, sweet fruit is dense and concentrated, flavored with currants and black figs. This should age well, with its present dominant dry structure. – R.V.
NEWS
- Once again it was held the Douro/Duero tasting that brings together the best wines from these two regions. This year it took place in Madrid on the 14th and 15th November. There were 30 wines (15 from each country) selected by the Sobremesa (Spain) and Revista de Vinhos (Portugal) magazines.
We proudly announce that Quinta do Portal AURU 2001 was classified in the 3rd place with 93 points.
- The Press Choice: at the annual tasting promoted by Revista de Vinhos, in Lisbon, Quinta do Portal Vintage 2005 was classified in 2nd place.
NEW RELEASES
We presented the following new releases in November:
- Quinta do Portal 2005 Vintage Port - Our second release of a single Quinta Vintage Port. Very well structured with great fruit, strength but also silky. Great value!
- Portal 2003 LBV Port - A Great LBV from an excellent vintage!
- Portal 30 Year Old and Portal 40 Year Old Aged Tawny Ports - A revelation of some of our family treasures! Unmissable!
- Quinta do Portal Douro Red Reserva 2004 - It has an extraordinary fruit complexity with great structure and expression. A wine very enjoyable now but that will mature extremely well in the bottle.
- Duradero 2006 - Douro and Toro together again with this spectacular wine made from Tinta Roriz and Tinta de Toro
2007 HARVEST
The 2007 harvest was later than usual due to the delay in the vegetative cicle of the vines, more evident in the white varieties. The weather was dry and generous (with the exception of some rain in the beginning of October) and the grapes were very healthy at the time of picking. Despite all the difficulties we had a production increase of 10% - Miguel Sousa (Eng. Agrónomo / Agronomist)
The harvest has finally reached its end! The Red wines finished the malolactic and the last white wines are now finalising the alcoholic fermentation. It is truly an unusual year. But the news are very good: the average quality of the wines is high, and if the ageing confirms it, we’ll have again (after 4 years) a Portal Vintage Port and the Quinta do Portal AURU. Great premiere for the new winery! – Paulo Coutinho (Enólogo/Winemaker)
