TN: 2000 Terra do Zambujeiro

Post by Heather Hathwell »

When I was in Madeira a couple years ago I bought a bottle of this red Alentejo wine as a gift for a friend in France who was going to receive a shipment of a couple bottles of 1834 malvasia madeira for me and put away. I wasn't directly familiar with the producer but I've always been a fan of Alentejo and Douro wines. I got a second bottle of this Zambujeiro to take home with me, so I could try what I was giving. The thing is, I put it away in the storage unit and forgot about it, assuming I had consumed it at least a year ago, until I discovered it last night. :o

I haven't seen any notes on this wine, but my guess is that as a 2000 of unknown shelf-life it should be opened soon. I will keep you posted as I intend to try it soon. But in the meantime, if anyone has tried this or known someone who has, please let me know. Thanks.

The wines of Quinta do Zambujeiro are among my favorites from Alentejo. Been at the producer this summer and tasted all his wines and for me was the confirmation of great wines. They make the Zambujeiro, Terras de Zambujeiro and Monte do Castanheiro.
Terras do Zambujeiro is the 2nd label of the house and generaly a good wine. That 2000 i think it was the second vintage of the house, it is nowadays dificult to find in Portugal and unfortunately i never tried. I think it's time to drink that wine.

All the Best,
Best Regards, João Rico
