2024 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Not part of the sit-down tasting, but a part of the walk around tasting. So this is a rather brief note.

Fresh and bright nose. Big tannins, minty, tannic, solid fruit and long dense finish. It seemed a touch disjointed right now and needs time to come together.

I'm glad to see this label again. SFE doesn't list it under their Port brands: https://www.symington.com/our-ports
But they make small mention of it on this page: https://www.symington.com/post/introduc ... tage-ports
In addition to our principal Vintage Ports, we will also make a small quantity of Smith Woodhouse and Quinta de Roriz 2024 Vintage Port.
Gould Campbell is a bit more dead.

Smith Woodhouse has its own property - Quinta da Madalena - and I've heard that that is the deciding factor for keeping a brand running. Gould Campbell never had an associated estate, so that's why it was discontinued (at least for now).
