TN: 2005 Dialogo

Post by Frederick Blais »

Dialogo is the Portuguese version of the increasingly popular Niepoort wine that started under the Fabelhaft project. The idea behind this is to make a label associated with a culture for a specific market. The main aim with this marketing technique is to build interest for the customer over the Douro wines offering them a high quality product at a cheap price.

Back in the days, we had this short discussion that was quite funny for me to read again.

Now the wine, the first words that came to my mind when I tasted this wine again, was WOW! I've tasted this wine at least a dozen time in september 2007 and I never really liked it, the fruit was green, the alcohol too present... So I recently bought a case to get some cheap wines for party. Now one thing is sure, these wines will be kept for my personnal consumption.

I served it around 16 celcius is a burgundy glass. Dirk told me after that served blind in the same condition, some thought it was burgundy, I would not go that far but it was indeed a silky, fresh young fruit driven and expressive Dialogo like I've never tasted before. The nose exhibit loads of freshly crushed red fruit flavours with a touch of vanilla and licorice to add depth. On the palate, it has Niepoort's signature of ripe fruit balanced with acidity, again fruit driven, pure and fresh. I do believe that with this 2005, they have finally achieve a standard quality that offers great value for many and that will certainly attract the customer towards other Douro wines. 15.5-16/20+
