1996 Dow's Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Drank at the Port at Andy's House last night with Alex R., Jason, Scott, Andy S, and I. Decanted this for about 11 hours. The nose was intially quite hot and was still showing young primary dark fruit. The palate was also quite hot, as Roy mentioned in his recent TN. The heat did eventually start blowing off to an acceptable level by the end of the bottle. But the body was, in the words of Scott, "kinda boring." It wasn't very expressive, although still young and primary at the moment. To me it seemed as if the fruit was still shut down. There was decent tannins and acidity, but it just never really came together. I'm not going to write this one off as I want to try it again in 4-5 years to see if its was just shut down or a dumb blond of a Port that will never get better. 86 points
