1979 Niepoort Colheita Port

Post by Alex R »

On the nose there's cake mix, spices, brown sugar and with a touch of heat. On the palate there is Carmel, toffee, nuts, raisins and orange peel. A very nice colheita 93-94 pts.

This is Andy V. posting under Alex's account because i am still at his place drinking :)

We started with a mini-vertical of the 1998 and 2002 Turley Vineyard 101 Zinfandel. The 1998 was a tad past its prime, but the 2002 was spot on. But I'm sure you all want to hear about the Niepoort...

bottled in 2006, this 1979 Colheita has a very pale tanish red color. The nose has lots of orange peel, toffee, and cake mix spices (Alex's wife described it as See's candy.."sticky and yummy") a great description of it. The palate has orange marmelade, toffee, great acidity, carmel, lots of spice, and some heat that really balances it out. The finish has some heat that helps balance out the the spices and maple. This is a really good Colheita. Now that this TN is done, its time to enjoy the Monte Cristo #2 Torpedo that Alex gave me...wow what a nose on it. I can't wait to smoke it.....
Oh yeah, the score for the Niepoort...93 points
