1977 Cockburn's Vintage Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

This was never offically declared and is actually considered a "Crusted Port" not a VP. It was a great treat to be able to try this as very few people have ever had the opPORTunity to. The color was still holding fine with some slight fading at the edge, but no bricking. The nose had tons of violets, rose pedals, white cherries, cranberries, and mandarines. Such a complex nose I had to force myself to stop smelling it and actually drink it. I first noticed how elegant and silky it was on the palate. Then it just filled the mouth with a mouth-watering sensation. The fruit was still young with lots of acidity, spices, cranberries, cedar and loads of tannins. The finish was so incredibly long and silky, yet massive at the same time. This is still so young and easily in the top of all 1977 VP's. A true shame that Cockburn's didn't declare this.
