the Douro managerie

Post by Roy Hersh »

Last night I hosted one of my local tasting groups and we had a good number of Douro wines and I opened a youngster of a Port for them too.

The Douro wines:

a. 2000 Quinta do Fojo - Fojo - the best of the bunch outside of one later on
b. 2004 Quinta de la Rosa Reserva - Other than the oak which was a lot less the 2nd day, this was a really fun wine and would be really wonderful in 5+ years.
c. 2005 Churchill Estates - Very sound bottle that was left somehow from the FTLOP weekend. Thank you who ever brought this over. Nice wine! Long life ahead.
d. 2006 Quinta do Crasto Vinha Velha - loverly.
e. 2005 CARM - surprising better than I ever expected.
f. 2005 Churchill's Quinta da Gricha - whoa baby, a hell of a joy ride. Nice upside!
g. 2005 Quinta do Vale d. Maria - the winner of the night for me. Still deciding between 93/94 points. Gorgeous and one of the finest I have had from the 2005 vintage.

The Port is a young but beautiful rendition and ready to go now or 10 more years, not a LT ager, but so perfectly balanced.

1992 Quinta da Cavadinha (Warre's)

tonight my wife and I finished off the last few ounces in all the red wine bottles. Great fun and smoother and less insane tannins.

Full tasting notes will appear in the March newsletter.
