TN: 2004 Quinta de Ventozelo Touriga Nacional

Post by Andy Velebil »

A Douro wine that I found yesterday at the local wine store near me for $15. No formal tasting note, as a bunch of old friends stopped by for some wine and conversation last night. But here are some impressions... Overall I thought it to be a nice bottle given the price. Some dark fruit, but not overripe, nicely balanced with some light tannins. A little in the body weight department, but still a satisfying bottle. If I had to score this I'd be in the 86 point range. At that price I'd buy this again for a daily house wine.

Is it 100% Touriga Nacional? Was it stinky on the nose?

Yes, 100% and no it wasn't stinky. It had a very nice and fragrant nose that is typical of 100% TN wines I've had.

Have you had stinky experiences with other 100% TN wines?

Stinky in a good sense, not in a musty or bottle stinky way. I thought TN was really pronounced in most of the wines at the Douro event. It is something particular to Portuguese wine, but I thought the trend was to calm it down some.
