2000 Fonseca - $40 - Buy or Not?

Post by Moses Botbol »

Would you buy 2000 Fonseca Vintage for $40.00 a bottle if offered? No official offer yet, but I want to know if worth the hassle. Has anyone bought it cheaper than that in USA?

Current UK price for this is the equivalent of $60 including tax so $40 looks like an excellent deal. I haven't had this for a couple of years but the last few times I tasted it it was a brute of a wine that will take another couple of decades to mature. Worth the investment in my book

I've been thinking of buying some at $65. $40 would be a steal.

A store had it on their list for $50, so I figured 20% off on a case? If there are any Boston-area members that would like to go in on this, please let me know. I first have to see if they have it, how many bottles they have, and if they are interested in giving me a discount. If they don't give a discount, but have plenty of stock, I'll announce their store for all of you to swarm on at $50.

Moses,

Just grab the full case, are you kidding? [shok.gif]

Geez, one of the greatest of the 2000 VPs. In 30 years when you are in your later stages of life and this is selling for $400 a bottle, you'll have a fun tale to tell. Along with the Niepoort this was my 2nd favorite of the 2000 vintage. So, duh ... is $40 worth it?

Was this you just shilling for that store yet-to-be mentioned? [friends.gif] Of course you know I am joking but hey, after you grab yours, you really should share with others here who don't own this blue chip.

I'd buy it at $40 and I don't have any storage space for it! That's a fantastic deal.

I haven't contacted them about their stock yet. Could be a mistake as their other vintages seemed realistic. I know $40 is a joke, but they had them listed at $50 which is not bad either I guess...

Stay tuned for details. [help.gif]

Actually this totally slipped my mind and have to figure out where I saw this deal to start off with. [help.gif]

If I can remember find the store and they have it, I will post as I doubt I will buy any right now.
