1996 Warre's Quinta Da Cavadinha Vintage Port

Post by dom carter »

Just drunk this over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, my thoughts - although i'm new to tasting notes,

Closed on the nose, although a hint of cherry/fig(?) - After decanting it showed "brick red" hue on the edge and a tawny hue to the purple body, lots of Chocloate and Liquorice with some Plum "jam", as the weekend (4 days!!) progressed more cherry tones evolved, it stuck with the fruit as opposed to spice - and the forth day didn't do it any justice! It drank best after the first day.

A Port that could definately do with another 15 yrs as it (IMHO) needs to open, and the chocalate and liquorice are just too bold getting in the way of the fruit that's trying to get out!

Dom,
I agree this needs another 15 years. I had it last October 2009 and thoroughly enjoyed it...enough to score it 92-93 (but leaning more toward 93). Amazing how youthful and full bodied this still is for a "non-declared" year and shows just how good many SQVP's can be.

Hi,

Just bought another bottle to revisit this after 3.5 months, no real change to my notes and i still believe it's better on the second day and it's needs another 10-15 years.
