1983 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by John Sel »

At 24 hours (stoppered decanter at 16C): medium dark red colour with some paleness at the rim, where there is clear attenuation. Shy on the nose initially, but, with warmth, gradually developing spicy dark fruit with a eucalyptus hint - well sustained. Nice round, even, gently sweet wine on the palate with a pleasingly dry tannic/acidic finish. Altogether a very agreeable middle of the road mature VP. I have had better bottles of this wine. On day 1, there were occasional slight off notes on the nose, but today the wine appears entirely clean. 88

Very nicely detailed note. Does seem to be a slightly off bottle, as your note indicated. Hopefully the next one shows better! [cheers.gif]
