Real Companhia Velha's, Quinta das Carvalhas. A view from the Rio Douro.
Gustavo Devesas, a good friend since 2005, provided an extraordinary visit and tasting of Vintage Ports for our PHT2 guests. This took place before a fantastic lunch; held at the Symington Family Estate's brand new visitor center at Quinta do Bomfim, (the heart and soul of Dow's Ports).
Have you tried the Ports and Douro wines of Quinta da Devesa?A gorgeous property a stone's throw from Vallado, so many fine treasures to explore while visiting!
DR Port needs to have more awareness of their brand. A fine lineup of very well made Port wine!
Simply put, this is one of the greatest Tawny Ports ever made, and it's sold at a price that is actually affordable. S. Leonardo's Old Tawny Port is more than 60 years of age, but the nectar in the bottle tastes significantly older. An amazing Port in one of the coolest packages ever!
Quinta do Vallado's excellent Douro wines were well known. Our PHT2 group learned that the Ports at Vallado are outstanding too. Winemaker Francisco S. Ferreira, provided a fine tutored tasting. We then spent time in the vineyards with incredible views and had a chance to witness the harvesting of grapes up close and personal. Then came lunch and Vallado's extraordinary lineup of Douro wines. A great day for all of us!
The spinal column of the Douro.
Ready for the challenge!
Temptation.Quinta de Linhares prepared an extensive spread of petiscos before dinner. Eating light in Portugal! ;)
Some of the Ports we tasted during our visit to Quinta do Tedo. They just keep getting better every year.
Ana Almeida is smart, energetic and passionate about the Port and Douro wines of Quinta do Noval. Here, she explained the operation of robotic lagares to our guests. A class act!
One of the greatest innovators in Madeira wine today!
The Burmester Lodge is well placed and an incredible first look at a Port lodge, located directly next to the bridge that takes you from Porto to Gaia. But the treasures inside are what make this such a great visit ... that and the fantastic people from Sogevinus who will look after you. A must visit!
"Move-in-ready".Tempting!?!?!
Life is good! Relaxing on the Douro and taking it all in with a great view and unique perspective from the water, looking up at the monumental quintas and vineyards of the greater Douro Valley.NSR = No selfie required.
J.M. da Fonseca's Domingos Soares Franco is one of the world's masters of fortified wine, producing the greatest expression of the Muscat grape, in the form of Moscatel de Setubal. He pulled 10 of his greats for us to try. Established in 1834 and with the oldest table wine brand in Portugal, (Periquita), we had a remarkable afternoon with Domingos. On the far left is my friend and CellarTracker creator, Eric LeVine who joined our Fortification Tour this year.
FUN with FORTIFIEDS:Last night, a group of friends came over to enjoy these bottles of Madeira. Tonight I am presenting a Port event for a group of 20 individuals that I've never met before. In 2017, they will be joining us in Portugal to see Douro up close and personal.
The exquisite Douro foliage at harvest time.
Which Port with this?
