2010 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port – cask sample. Purple opacity from center to rim. Lavender dominates the bouquet along with blackcurrants and kalamata. The Vesuvio shows even greater intensity and extraordinary focus when compared side-by-side to the Senhora da Ribeira. Gorgeous waves of blueberry and black plum flavors dominate the voluptuous round tannins in the mid-palate, yet the balance is impeccable. The tannins re-emerge late in the game and are powerful, without any signs of astringency. This sumptuous youngster delivers a remarkably long finish and promises a fine cellar-worthy future, yet it’s certainly fun to drink now. 93-95 points 6/1/12

1969 Graham’s Single Harvest Tawny Port – This “tasting sample” was bottled in 2012. Approximately 4,200 bottles were produced of this fine Colheita, 21 casks were originally sampled with only six selected for bottling. Accented by hints of leather, baking spice, mahogany and cinnamon with a backdrop of sweet shredded coconut and almond paste aromas. Light to medium-bodied and delicately textured with lush flavors of butterscotch, baked apple and exemplary crisp acidity throughout. The long and sweet finish shows a touch of heat after swallowing.
